Wildfires cost Montana $240 million in tourism dollars

Despite the fires that burned 1,276,456 acres of Montana last year, more tourists came to Big Sky County in 2017 than the year before — and they spent a lot more money.

Yet Montana could have seen an extra $240.5 million in visitor spending if not for the fires, the University of Montana Institute for Tourism and Recreation Research reports.
