Massive number of trees in Illinois attacked by emerald ash borer

According to agricultural experts for the state of Illinois, about a thousand trees have been killed due to the attack of emerald ash borer, during the year. This number has been generated after the final tally of the damage done by the insect within the state was determined.

This invasive species has destroyed thousands of trees as it literally bores holes into the bark of ash trees to lay its eggs. As the larvae hatch, they eat the tree from the inside out, often killing it in the process.
