Lecours sawmill employees protest closure with hwy blockade in Hearst, ON

Lecours Employee Protest Tomorrow in HearstHighway 11 west of Hearst will be closed to traffic tomorrow afternoon between 1:00 and 3:00 as employees and contractors of Lecours Lumber protest. They are protesting the potential closure of the sawmill because no agreement has been made with Constance Lake First Nation and Lecours Lumber on a new lease agreement. Timmins-James Bay MPP Gilles Bisson says the company has received notice of eviction if no agreement could be worked out. Approximately 200 native and non-native employees and contractors will lose their jobs if an agreement cannot be reached. Lecours has asked for mediation but instead has received an eviction notice from the Federal Government.
