Private company terminates woody biomass project in downtown Vancouver, WA

Schneider Electric is ending its partnership with Clark County to build and operate a biomass plant in downtown Vancouver.

According to a letter the Seattle-based company sent to the Board of County Commissioners on Nov. 18, Schneider Electric decided to end the project because it lost its “ability to apply for the U.S. Department of Treasury grant due to the actions of the City of Vancouver…”

The letter further states that bids from contractors indicate the project cost is “nearly double what Clark County’s feasibility study had indicated.”
