Bozeman’s Ossler Logging Inc. negotiated a contract with the U.S. Bureau of Land Management in Dillon to log a 220-acre area adjacent to the Sun West Ranch subdivision in the upper Madison Valley.
The BLM’s Dillon office wants Ossler Logging to remove all the conifers, including large swaths of beetle-killed lodgepole pine, to restore and promote aspen habitat. The logging will also provide a buffer to reduce wildfire threat to the subdivision, said BLM forester Aly Piwowar.
“This was a negotiated sale because of special constraints involved with operating near the Sun West Ranch,” said spokesman David Abrams. “There were no other bidders.”
