Quinaults get grant for biomass energy project

The Quinault Indian Nation has been selected to receive a $205,000 U.S. Forest Service Woody Biomass Project Utilization Grant for engineering and design work on a proposed biomass heating project for new and existing tribal facilities in Taholah.

Fawn Sharp, Quinault Nation President, said the grant is a step forward “in our ongoing program to achieve more energy independence, using clean and sustainable sources.”

The tribe has been investigating the use of forest biomass material, generated from forest management practices, as fuel for heating new or existing tribal facilities.
