Two weeks ago, the equipment and rolling stock of Diamond West Lumber sawmill was auctioned to satisfy claims of Bank of America and other creditors.
The Corvallis Gazette-Times reports that salvagers this week began taking apart the last of the remaining equipment and the mill itself for scrap, a job that may take a couple of months.
The mill’s output used to go into furniture and Fender guitars. It closed three years ago.
Remaining in Philomath are two plants owned by Georgia Pacific, a sawmill and a planer, and the Marys River Lumber sawmill. It recently was closed until the market improves.
